MJD Consulting equips educators, leaders, and youth-serving organizations with the strategy, skill-building, and support needed to build equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environments. Through keynotes, workshops, coaching, and leadership development, we strengthen belonging, elevate accountability, and help teams lead change with purpose, courage, and care.

Meet the Founder

Dr. Melissa Figueroa-Douglas

MJD Consulting was founded by Dr. Melissa Figueroa-Douglas to help education and youth-serving leaders build learning environments where every student and adult can thrive. Raised in Queens, New York, Melissa grew up immersed in cultural diversity and strong community ties while also witnessing how unequal access to opportunity shapes outcomes. These early experiences informed a lifelong commitment to equity, belonging, and systems that expand possibility. Over the past two decades, Melissa has worked across the education system, from classroom teaching to school and district leadership. She has also consulted with and facilitated professional learning for educators and leaders across Pennsylvania and beyond through conferences, professional development sessions, panels, and collaborative learning spaces. Through this work, she gained a deep understanding of how school culture, identity affirmation, and belonging influence both academic success and well-being.

 

MJD Consulting was founded in response to a recurring need identified by Melissa: while many leaders are dedicated to equity, they frequently lack the necessary structures and strategies to translate their values into actionable practices. Today, MJD Consulting collaborates with K–12 districts, higher education institutions, youth organizations, and mission-driven teams to enhance equity-centered leadership, drive cultural transformation, and reform systems so that belonging and excellence become the standard.
